Field of Operations.
The Ministry of Agriculture has put GNIS in charge of:
- organizing the economics and regulations of the production and marketing of seed species: cereals, maize, sorghum, fodder, turf, oil seeds, beets, potatoes, flax, vegetables and flowers;
- controlling seed and plant quality during production, processing and marketing, and handling official seed certification;
- fostering the development of the industry by:
- promoting French know-how (seminars, appraisals, study tours, cooperative projects, etc.)
- exchanging genetic resources
- training courses for seed specialists in France and other countries.

At the heart of the seed industry, GNIS brings together breeders, producers and exporters and is the corespondent for Ministries and organizations such as: EEC, FAO, Development Banks, ADEPTA, UBIFRANCE, and for over 100 countries, with a focus on North Africa, Eastern Europe and Asia. |
